Queenstown would be the ultimate place to retire or have a vacation home. It's a surprisingly small city, with an incredible array of people, food and activities. On the coast of Lake Wakitipu (enormous, 80km long and 400m deep) and in the mountains, it has incredible views and a very distinct culture. There was everything from parasailing (our trip was unfortunately cancelled due to wind) to boat cruises.
We did a jet boat tour up the Dart River, took the gondola to the mountain overlooking the town, ate dinner on the piers and walked around the whole city. The second day we took a glass roofed bus to the Milford Sound for an afternoon cruise. While the drive was beautiful, 5 hours each way was pretty brutal and it was rainy for most of the cruise. Limited our views but made the waterfalls on the cliffs spectacular.
Our hotel was great and the city was awesome, but that ended our tour of New Zealand and we were off to Australia. Here are the Queenstown photos.
