Yesterday we woke up and went on a coffee cruise of the Sydney harbor, which is absolutely enormous. There are some incredible houses but the real estate must be incredibly expensive, the houses were valued at 10, 20, 30 million on the waterfront. Really cool way to see a city that expansive (shockingly only about the size of Atlanta) that is mostly on the water. Much prettier than Atlanta though for sure.
That afternoon we went to the Toranga Zoo to see Koalas, Wallabees, Kangaroos, Platypus etc. Australia has caused evolution to create some weird looking animals, but cool to see them in person. After that we went to Manly Beach (one of their famous ones) but we were under-impressed. It was super crowded and kind of reminded us of Myrtle a bit.
Had a great dinner on the water last night that lasted us well into the evening and a nice walk home. We befriended our waiter who was a 2nd year in college and had to be his most amusing/confusing table of the night. Sydney is beautiful even downtown and reminds me of London in a lot of ways. High rises next to historic/protected colonial buildings. The people here are great too, super friendly and happy. It's the only place we've visited so far that I'd actually consider living in.
Today is a lazy morning for the kids (our parents are going to see the botanical gardens) with a little bit of football mixed in. My dad and I woke up at 7am Sydney time to watch the second half of the UGA game live. After this though we're going to walk around the opera house and then we climb the Harbor Bridge, which should prove to be awesome.
We leave really early tomorrow morning for the Great Barrier Reef, so not sure when I'll have a chance to update you again or get pictures out but I'll do my best. 3 more days until we make the long journey home.
